Tucson, Arizona -- Kathy Jeanne Strahorn passed away July 4, 2017, at St. Mary's Hospital due to complications of surgery. She was 70. Kathy was born September 30, 1946, in Iowa Falls, Iowa, to Keith and M. Jeanne Strahorn. Kathy graduated from Kanawha (Iowa) High School. She then took her B.S. degree from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, and her M.B.A. degree from the National University of San Diego, California. She enjoyed a career as a medical technologist and laboratory manager in San Diego and in Tucson.

Kathy's love of nature was expressed through her volunteer work with the Sierra Club of San Diego and in her hiking and bird-watching. She loved being on the water and often reflected on family fun times in her Iowa childhood boating on Clear Lake and Lake Okoboji. After retirement, Kathy found satisfaction in travel, book clubs, and her work with the Health and Wellness Committee and the library at her home in Tucson Estates. She enjoyed attending concerts and the theater. She was also an active member of PEO Sorority, Chapter AX.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by sisters Janet (Karl) Knock, Des Moines, and Barbara Strahorn, Tucson; nephews Joel (Jessica) Lown and Zachary (Emily Rhodes) Schaefer; grandniece Magnolia Grace Lown; cousins, and many friends.

Family and friends are invited to honor the memory of Kathy Jeanne Strahorn at the Tucson All Souls Procession November 4 and at the Tucson Estates Community Center November 6. Memorial gifts may be made to National Public Radio, The Nature Conservancy, or the TEPOA Health and Wellness Committee.
