Earl "Bud" Leroy Sorensen, the first born son of Hans Christian and Mildred (Halgrim) Sorensen, was born in Goldfield on February 11, 1931. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth and graduated from Goldfield High School in 1948. Bud was an avid baseball player – both in high school and the town teams (his uniform was sponsored by "Whyte & Sons"). He attended Cal Poly Tech in San Luis Obispo, CA studying Horse Craft.

Bud served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from February 29, 1952 until his honorable discharge on February 16, 1954. On August 29, 1959, Bud was united in marriage with Joy L. Stearns in Blue Earth, MN. Bud worked for the Rock Island Railroad for 9 years and returned to Goldfield to farm. He was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove and the Goldfield American Legion.

Bud loved the farm, his heritage and his favorite place – the horse barn. Bud was received into eternal life on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation, at the age of 86 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Kent Sorensen and Dunnie Sorensen and sisters, Karen Evans and Victoria Reyna. Survivors include his wife, Joy Sorensen; daughter, Deb Sorensen of West Des Moines; sisters, Carmen "Dee" Halverson and husband Carl of Eagle Grove and Hollace "Holly" Upchurch of Fort Dodge; sisters-in-law, Arlis Sorensen of Goldfield, Jill "Sadie" Sorensen of Goldfield, Betty Stearns of Gilmore City, LaVonne Benna of Pocahontas, Connie Kraft of Goldfield and Jackie Hudson of Fort Dodge and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, July 31, 2017, 2:00 p.m. at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Jason Cooper officiating. Visitation is from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield.
