September 7, 1928 ---- March 1, 2017

Amos Almer Hill, 88, of Humboldt passed away March 1, 2017 at Humboldt Care Center North. Memorial services will be 2 pm Saturday, May 6th, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery near Hardy. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is assisting the family.

Amos was born September 7, 1928 on a farm east of Humboldt to Almer and Anna (Johnson) Hill. He attended Grove Township grade school and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1946. Amos was always interested in agriculture. He farmed with his uncle Lewis Johnson until he was able to establish his own farm operation. He also worked for ASCS Farm Services. Amos was drafted into the US Army and served during the Korean War. On March 17, 1957 he married Janice Westerbeck at the United Methodist Church in Humboldt. The couple lived on a farm near Hardy where they raised their children Sandra and Michael. Amos and Janice moved to Humboldt in 1997. They made their home at Springvale Senior Living in 2014, and Amos became a resident of Humboldt Care Center North in December of that year.

He was baptized and confirmed at Hardy Trinity Lutheran Church where he was a life long member until joining Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church and held several offices there. He enjoyed going to the Hardy Café and having coffee with friends. Amos bought a farm car and put 50,000 miles on it driving around looking at the crops and he enjoyed his garden. He shared that experience with his grandchildren, and he delighted in every hour he spent with them. He served as a Grove Township Trustee. When he moved to Humboldt he became a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.

Those people remaining to cherish his memory include his wife Janice of Humboldt, daughter Sandra (James) Harris of Arlington, TX, son Michael (Deb) Hill of West Linn, OR, grandchildren Ben and Eric Hockel, Lucas, Mackenzie, Eli, and Tucker Hill; Sisters Mary (Ray) Husted, Janice (John) Peterson, sister-in-law Pat Hill, and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Arthur and Edward (Dorothy) Hill, and brother-in-law Jake Westerbeck.
