Dale Marcellous Smith, son of Virgil and Faye (Griffith) Smith, was born on April 22, 1938 in Goldfield, Iowa. He was raised and educated there and graduated from Goldfield High School in 1956. On August 2, 1957, Dale was united in marriage with Ruby Jayne Anderson at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. Dale and Ruby enjoyed traveling in their 5th wheel camper to Montana, Florida, Arizona and Texas plus many other states, and made many new friends after their retirement.

Dale worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 30 years, which was later named Union Pacific Railroad. Dale was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was an avid sports fan, especially rooting for the Iowa Hawkeyes. Dale also loved to play golf, basketball and baseball.

Dale passed away suddenly on Friday, July 14, 2017, at the age of 79 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Faye Smith. He is survived by his wife, Ruby; two sons, Bruce of Ocala, FL and Darren of Livingston, MT; two fantastic grandchildren, Kaleb and Marisa Smith of Bozeman, MT, who were his pride and joy; two brothers, Colin and wife Noreen of Prior Lake, MN and Ronald and wife Shirley of Webster City and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove, with visitation one hour prior to service time at the church. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
