MOUNT CARROLL, Ill. — D. Eldridge McBride, 87, of Mount Carroll, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at Freeport Memorial Hospital. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Mount Carroll. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mount Carroll. Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Oct. 24, 1914, in Clarion, Iowa. He married Marguerite "Peggy" Poor in 1939 in Chicago. She died in 1998. He was a college teacher and dean of students at Shimer College, Mount Carroll. He taught 33 years and was chairman of social sciences at Shimer College. He was a visiting instructor at the College of the University of Chicago. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Alice Bowen, Ellicott City, Md.; a son, Duncan McBride, Fairfax, Va.; five grandchildren; and brothers, George McBride, Kalispell, Mont., and Ralph McBride, Duluth, Minn.
