Larry A. Brott, 72, of Clarion passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion. A Celebration of Life for Larry Brott will be held at 5:00 PM on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion, with Pastor Bill Kem officiating. Burial will be held at a later date. Visitation will be held Sunday beginning at 3:00 PM until services begin at 5:00 PM at the funeral home.

Lawrence A. Brott was born in Tioga, Pennsylvania on December 22, 1944, where he was raised. He relocated to Iowa in 1962 to join the family auto body business. Larry met and married Maxine Garth while living in Webster City. The couple later moved to Westside, Iowa. Larry attended auto body school in Kansas City and relocated to Goldfield in 1978, where he opened Larry’s Auto Body. In 1986, they moved the shop to Clarion, where he operated until his retirement in 2010. Maxine passed away in 2007 after a brief battle with cancer.

Larry’s lifelong passion of working on cars was not only his chosen career, but his hobby, which continued into his retirement. Most of the family vacations were timed to coincide with a car show, swap meet or a trip to pick up a vehicle. He enjoyed watching car auctions on TV as well.

In 2008, Larry began dating Gloria Snyder. The couple enjoyed traveling to Branson, Niagara Falls and to Pennsylvania to visit Larry’s family. They also enjoyed attending car shows together.

Larry will be remembered as a great father, husband, companion and neighbor. Larry is survived by his children, Larry L. (Lisa) Brott of Kansas City, Missouri, John (Carol) Brott of Clarion, Iowa and Marcie (Ryan) Winkelman of Peosta, Iowa; grandchildren Krystal (Cody) Frank of Auburn, Iowa and children Emma, Clayton, Barrett and Electia, Dustin (Kristen Pedersen) Brott of Orange City, Iowa, Brady (Megan Zwiefel) Brott of Clarion, Evelyn Winkelman and Keagan Winkelman of Peosta; significant other Gloria Snyder and her daughter Stacy (Mark Fjetland) Snyder and granddaughter Alianna, all of Clarion; sister Dawn Bell of Wellsboro, Pennyslvania; brother Donald (Helen) Brott of Tioga, Pennsylvania, along with numerous other relatives and friends. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, wife Maxine and brothers Leland, John and Colby.
