As a child, the family made their homes in the communities of Woolstock, Dakota City, and Arnold before settling in Humboldt. Vivian attended Humboldt Community Schools and following her education, went to work for Millers Produce as an egg candler. On November 6, 1949, she was united in marriage to Merle Heidt at Storm Lake and the couple made their home at Humboldt. In addition to raising their four children, Vivian worked for Ben Franklin Stores, Clayton’s Department Store, and Hotsy. In addition, she kept busy babysitting for neighborhood children. For years, Vivian was a staple of the Farmer’s Market in Humboldt where she was famous for her home made bread and pickled beets, quilts, and crotchet work. She enjoyed sewing and made many of her children’s clothing and daughter, Virginia’, bridesmaid dresses. She enjoyed puzzles, card games, and loved caring for her cat, Lucy. Mr. Heidt passed away in 2009 and Vivian continued to maintain her home in Humboldt. She passed away on the early morning of July 26, 2017 at the age of 85.
