Dale "Pops" Lee Stephens, the son of Don M. and Ilys Ione (Griffith) Stephens, was born on July 2, 1953, in Clarion, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Goldfield, graduating from Goldfield High School in 1972. On October 10, 1981, Dale married Natalie Poncin in Goldfield and to their union, a son David was born. They later divorced in 1997.

Dale enjoyed his 33 years of operating a backhoe for Stephens Trenching and had recently retired from trucking. He was contracted for many Goldfield projects from snow removal to water mains and served on the Goldfield City Council. Dale collected coins, he enjoyed traveling, golfing, hunting, watching sports (his team was the winning team), Steve Harvey's "Family Feud" and cooking (BEST Ham Ever!). "Pops" was also known to "wager an occasional bet or two"!

In recent years Dale really enjoyed spending his free time with his family. Getting together with his son on weekends and driving around Goldfield with his brother eating chicken were some of his favorite things. Dale also enjoyed seeing and talking with his grandson Derek whenever he could. Dale was a very traditional man with family being one of his core values.

Dale passed away on Monday, June 5, 2017, at the age of 63 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dean Stephens. Survivors include his son, David Stephens (Arianna Flack) of Fort Dodge; grandson, Derek Stephens; brothers, Dan Stephens of Goldfield, Don Ray Stephens of Goldfield and Dennis Stephens and friend Barb of Eagle Grove; sisters, Neola (Nicky) Kvale (Jim) of Goldfield, Nancy Graf (Ron) of Oakdale, MN and sister-in-law Karren Stephens of Clear Lake. and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.

Visitation is Thursday, June 15, 2017, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Foust Funeral Home in Goldfield. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday June 16, 2017 at Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield.
