January 22, 1941 ---- June 5, 2017

Jerry Carl Etter, 76, passed away June 5, 2017 at his home and farm of 52 years. Born January 22nd, 1941 to Robert Carl Etter and Opal Husted Etter in Clarion, Wright County, Iowa the eldest of his siblings. Jerry grew up in the country in Chariton, Iowa and attended many one room school houses and finished his education through “school of hard knocks”. Starting at a young age, Jerry worked many self-employed jobs including grinding feed, shelling corn, building fence, and driving a truck for his own business, “Jerry Etter Trucking and Shelling”. Jerry was also employed at Reilly’s Construction, and retired in 2008 to go fishing.

Jerry was married to Virginia Ann Thorne on June 25th, 1960 in Chariton, Iowa and remained happily married for 56 years. They had three children, Bernie, Bruce and Christine respectively. Their love grew through their children and grandchildren and many family friends and neighbors.

One of Jerry’s biggest pride and joys alongside family and friends was his John Deere Tractors. While he had many, some of Jerry’s favorite things to do included going to his home away from home in Talmoon, Minnesota on Etter road; Enjoying “Ma’s” cooking; filming wildlife, family, and friends; visiting with friends and family over donuts and coffee; and fishing everywhere he went. Between “Ma’s” baking and Jerry’s filming, every birthday and family event are remembered.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and many close friends. Left to cherish him and his memories are his wife Virginia, children Bernie and Pam Etter, Bruce Etter, and Chris and John Keeler. Brother Jim and Kim Etter, sister Linda and Bill Brown, grandchildren Zachary, Jerry, Andrew, Leta, Rosa, Jena, Sara, Gizzy, Kandyce, Kencie, and Samantha; as well as 16 great grandchildren. He is surrounded now and forever with all his cherished close fishing buddies before him.
