Mr. F. G. (Gus) Nelson, 94, long-time Valier [Montana] resident, died Friday at the Emanuel Lutheran Home in Kalispell, from the infirmation of age. Mr. Nelson was born in Sweden on May 27, 1871, and came to the United States in 1890. He spent several years farming in Illinois and Iowa [Wright County] before coming to Valier where he homesteaded 11-1/2 miles east of town, in 1912. He married Sara Stanley in Waltham, Illinois, in 1897. She preceded him in death in April, 1953.
Survivors are sons Ronald and Lawrence, Valier; Vernon, Columbus, Mont.; daughters, Mrs. J. P. (Ethel) Seifert, Conrad; Mrs. Jerry (Marie) Burns, Kalispell; Mrs. Leo (Dorothy) Wollam, Great Falls, and Mrs. J. L. (Anne) Barrett of Cascade; twelve grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren. A son, Carl, died in 1928.
Funeral services were held from the Valier Methodist Church on November 8, with Rev. E. Robison officiating. Vocal music was provided by Mr. and Mrs. John Larson, accompanied by Veta Marsh. E. F. Wyse and Son were in charge of arrangements. Active pallbearers were Ted Hamaker, Gus Habets, Lon Wheeler, Frank Hughes, Hank Parsons and Lloyd Eppe. Honorary pallbearers were Hilly Miller, Nat Wheeler, Clarence Parmelee, Ralph Bowman and Frank Wenzel. Honorary pallbearers who were unable to attend were Obie Harrison, Henry Lonnevick and Oscar Peterson. We extend our condolences to the family as we recall what a wonderful neighbor and friend Mr. Nelson was to us.
