March 4, 1922 ---- April 12, 2017
Marlene Gamble, 95, formerly of Hinckley, MN, went home to be with her Lord, April 12, 2017, while a resident at Gables East in Cambridge, MN. Born in the upstairs bedroom of her parent's two-story home in Clarion, Iowa, March 4, 1922, her family relocated to Richfield, MN, shortly thereafter. Marlene became a fashion designer for Perry Brown/Vanity Dress Co. after graduating from Central High in Minneapolis in 1940. She met her helpmate in life, Howard Gamble, in 1938 on a blind date. The young couple began their seventy-five year journey together on April 15, 1942 at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in South Minneapolis. Marlene followed Howard to Washington D.C. in 1942, when Howard accepted a position with the FBI prior to enlisting in the Merchant Marines during WWII in 1944.
Marlene and Howard raised four of their five children in Richfield and Bloomington, MN, before relocating to Hinckley, MN, in 1972; they never looked back, grateful for the welcomed change in lifestyle, new friends, and log cabin in the woods. Marlene stained the cabin redwood along with everything else that was within reach of her brush.
Marlene is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Alma Hunt, and her brother, Ralph Jr. She is survived by her loving husband, Howard; her younger sister, Donna Wartman (Ocala, FL); sons Michael Gamble and wife, Lois (Birchwood, WI); Garry Gamble and wife, Renée (Grand Marais, MN); Steve Gamble and wife, Tammy (Lindstrom, MN); Todd Gamble and wife, Doreen (Hinckley, MN); daughter, Laurie, and husband, Dean Bengford (Cape Coral, FL); twenty-one grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grand-children; and many dear friends.
Anyone who met Marlene knew of her deep faith and dedication to the study of God's Word. We celebrate the fulfillment of her highly anticipated homecoming. "When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation and take me home what joy shall fill my heart. Then I shall bow in humble adoration and there proclaim, 'My God how great Thou art.'" A gathering to celebrate Marlene's life will be held at a future date to be announced.
