May 16, 1913 ---– December 20, 2004

Katherine Hannah Blank Pope, born May 16, 1913 in Goodell, Iowa, left this world for a better place on December 20, 2004. Throughout her life, Mom was a guide and a teacher, and shared her love, humor, and wisdom with many people in southwest Missouri as well as in her home state of Iowa.

Mom was married at 17 and a widow at 19, and from this marriage raised two fine sons, Arnold Lee and Kenneth Jacob Kwikkel. She worked her way up from almost nothing to become a successful businesswoman in northwest Iowa.

During World War II, Mom left her home to attend tailoring school in Omaha, Nebraska, going to class during the day and driving a taxi at night. After completing her training, she returned to northwest Iowa and built a dry-cleaning business.

In the early 1950's, she married Clyde Pope, and moved to Branson, Missouri to own and operate a motel and food service on Lake Taneycomo. From this marriage was born David Clyde Pope. In 1959, the family moved to Springfield, Missouri. Clyde passed away October 1, 1965, and again Mom found herself in the role of a single parent. Working full time, she still found time to be PTA president at David's elementary school, and was a Cub Scout den mother. She also cared for her mother and father, Alma and Ralph Blank in their later years. In 1989, Mom suffered a stroke. She met this challenge with hope and dignity, but the burden of illness was great.

For her three sons and for all who were fortunate enough to know her, Mom blending much love with high standards for personal and professional conduct. In all her affairs, she encouraged honesty, hard work, and a sense of humor as keys to success. The world is a better place for her presence.

Mom is survived by her sons Arnold, Kenneth, and David, five grandsons and a granddaughter, and many great grandchildren. Also beloved and close to Mom were Thomas Moore and Michelle Fischer.

Mom worked hard, enjoyed life, and loved her family.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2004 in Herman H. Lohmeyer Chapel with Rev. Tommy Loving officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. No visitation is planned. If desired memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society 3161 W. Norton Rd. Springfield, Missouri.
