August 28, 1905 --- May 22, 1985

Funeral services for Oscar Swanson, 79, of Stanhope, will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran church in Stanhope with the Rev. Kent Larson officiating and with burial in the Lawn Hill cemetery at Stanhope. Mr. Swanson died Wednesday night at the Crestview Manor Care Center. Friends may call at the Foster Funeral home from 6:30 p.m. Friday until 9:30 a.m. Saturday, when the casket will be taken to the church. A prayer service for relatives and friends will be held at 8 o'clock tonight at the Foster Funeral home.

Oscar William Swanson, son of August and Jennie Jacobson Swanson was born Aug. 28, 1905 in Hamilton county. He was reared and educated in Hamilton county and at Renwick, moving to Stanhope in 1935. He was married to Gladys M. Berkland on May 1, 1937 in the Little Brown church at Nashua. The couple lived in Stanhope where Mr. Swanson managed the Quaker Oats Grain Co. until retiring in 1965. The couple had continued to make their home in Stanhope.

Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Tom (Muriel) Nichols of Tracy, Iowa; two grandchildren, Cory and Katy Nichols; three brothers, John of Humboldt, Vernal of Camanche and Otto, Renwick; and also nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Ned Nichols; two brothers, Carl and Alvin Swanson.

He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran church, the Stanhope Senior Citizens and a charter member of the Stanhope Lions club.
