Local man killed in farm accident

A farm accident on the Anna Schutt farm near Woolstock claimed the life of Francis Michael Whitty, 42, of Woolstock Monday during the midmorning hours. Whitty, a long-time resident in the Woolstock area, was cutting diverted acres three miles north of his residence in a field just south of the Scott Stensrud farm home when the accident occurred. Nearing the end of the first lap around the field with the two-row stalk cutter Whitty was apparently thrown from the 620 John Deere tractor after the left rear wheel rode over an old disk which was hidden in the grass and then was caught by the machine while it proceeded forward. Mrs. Stensrud, preparing the noon meal at the time, heard the crash and later notified the Eagle Grove police and ambulance service about the mishap.

Funeral services for Francis Michael Whitty, 62, will be this (Thursday) morning at 11 o'clock in Sacred Heart Church. Rev. Edward Lechtenberg will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Clarion. Mr. Whitty met his tragic death about 9:20 a.m. Monday while working on the Anna Schutt farm, about three miles north of his farm place in Woolstock township. Mr. Whitty is survived by his wife, one son Dennis with the United States Submarine Service, one daughter, Miss Deborah Ann Whitty of Chicago, and five sisters, including Mrs. Frank Sadler of Eagle Grove. Dennis will be unable to be here for the
funeral as his submarine is on the high seas.
