Gladys Rosella Larson was born on June 13, 1911, the daughter of Lars and Anne Groth Larson in Humboldt County. Gladys received her education in the Eagle Grove school system. She was united in marriage to Edwin J. Tokheim of Eagle Grove on August 1, 1931, at the Samuel Lutheran Church parsonage in Eagle Grove. The couple has made Eagle Grove their home since that time.

She was a member of the Samuel Lutheran Church and active in circle and choir. She was a Sunday School teacher for 40 years, and held county and state offices in the W.C.T.U.

Gladys Tokheim died at the Community Memorial Hospital in Clarion on May 9, 1990, at the age of 78 years, 10 months, and 26 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Laura Lee; and one sister, Clarice Johnson. She is survived by her husband; two sons, Paul, Goldfield; and Russell, Minneapolis, Minn.; one daughter, Mrs. Roger (Anita) Norem, El Paso, Ill.; and two sisters, Mrs. Ernest (Eleanor) Hinrichsen, Eagle Grove, and Mrs. Walter (Loretta) Wilken, Denver, Colo.; and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 12 at the Samuel Lutheran Church, Eagle Grove, with the Rev. Carlton Shaw officiating and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. The Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home, Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
