October 25, 1902 ---- April 28, 1995

Edwin Julius Tokheim was born October 25, 1902 at Thor, Iowa to Ed and Martha Tokheim. He was raised and educated at Thor. He attended Waldorf College around 1917. He helped his father farm for a time. He was united in marriage to Gladys R. Larson on August 1, 1931 at the Samuel Lutheran Church Parsonage, Eagle Grove. They lived in Eagle Grove. He worked for McCoy Oil, and Christensen Motor Company as a mechanic for more than ten years. He retired in 1964 from the Eagle Grove Farmers Co-op service station, after more than 27 years of service. He was also a rural substitute mail carrier until the age of 75. His wife, Gladys Rosella Tokheim, died at Clarion on May 9, 1990.

He was a long-time member of Samuel Lutheran Church and had served as deacon and trustee. He was known for being the first person in Humboldt County to drive a tractor. He had visited Norway twice.

Edwin Julius Tokheim died at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital on Friday, April 28,1995 at the age of 92. He had entered the hospital on Thursday, April 27.

Survivors include sons, Paul D. Tokheim and his wife Jackie, Goldfield, Russell D. Tokheim and his wife June C., Minneapolis, Minn.; daughter, Anita C. Norem and husband Roger A., El Paso, Ill.; 9 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter; 1 brother, Olaf Tokheim, Clarkfield, Minn.; two sisters, Mildred Keen, Thor, and Genevieve Thompson, Fort Dodge; two sisters-in-law, Helen Tokheim, Cedar Rapids, and Ethel Tokheim, Humboldt. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Gladys, an infant daughter, Loralee, one grandson, Douglas, brothers, Elmer, Alfred, and Robert, and sister Anne Thompson.

Funeral services for Edwin J. Tokheim were held on Monday, May 1, 1995 at the Samuel Lutheran Church, Eagle Grove with the Reverend Marvin L. Dooley officiating the 11 a.m. service. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
