Harold Amos Spitler, 88, of Joplin, Mo., died at National Health Care, Joplin, on Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008, after a short illness. His visitation will be at Sullivan-Phillips Mortuary, Ltd., E. Moline, Ill., on Thursday, Oct. 2, at 10 a.m. with services following at 11 a.m. Rev. Alice Shirley will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Estate, Moline.

Harold was born Oct. 1, 1919, in Goodell, Iowa, to Leroy Dwight and Mary (Nelson) Spitler. He married Naomi Joens on March 30, 1946, E. Moline. She died March 26, 2005. He worked for the City of East Moline as a Treatment Plant operator, for 20 years and also for George Evans Co. for 17 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church for over 50 years and the East Moline Masonic Lodge No. 969 for over 50 years.

He is survived by his sons, Jack Spitler, Plant City, Fla., and David and wife, Joyce Spitler, Joplin; granddaughter, Michelle and husband, John Combs, Dallas, Texas; brother, Don Spitler, Mulberry, Ark.; and sister, Helen Stone, Nisswa, Minn. He is preceded in death by his parents; spouse; sister, Edith Ingersol; and half sister, Verna Ericson.
