Ellen M. Taylor, 98, Eagle Grove

Ellen Marie (Bowman) Newlove Taylor, daughter of Julius Bowman and Katherine (Ingram) Bowman Kersey, was born in Wilmington, Del., on Sunday, May 26, 1918. Ellen was married to William Newlove of Wilmington. Bill was killed in battle in Italy during WWII. His Staff Sgt. Bob Taylor had the duty to write to Mrs. Newlove following his death. After receiving that first letter, Ellen and Bob began corresponding with one another and the Lord used these letters to bring them together. Following Bob’s return after the war, they were married on September 10, 1945, at the New Castle Army Air Base. They were married for 47 years when Bob died in 1992.

Ellen worked in Wilmington during the war inspecting parts for the building of airplanes. She also helped the war effort by selling the most war bonds. For her effort, she was honored to christen the LSM 422 and was awarded a pin. Her love of Jesus led her to be very active in her church, Ruthfred Lutheran (AFLC) of Bethel Park, Pa. She was very faithful in her church attendance; Ellen always made certain she and her son, Richard, were in church whenever they had the opportunity, which was used of the Lord to create a love of God in her son. She loved to serve men’s dinners and funeral luncheons. She assisted with Bible School and an after school children’s program. She and Bob served as Luther League sponsors during Richard’s high school years. Ellen was a devoted housewife and very loving supportive mother. She worked as a salesperson for Jenny Lee Bakery in South Hills Village Mall for many years.

Ellen had many great friends, two of whom she stood for at their wedding, Ruth and Earl Thomas. She also made wonderful friendships with people of the congregations Pastor and Annette served across the nation. Ellen loved our Lord and knew His love in her life.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; step father, Leon Kersey; brother and sister-in-law, William and Jeanne Bowman of Wilmington, Del.; and aunts and uncles. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Pastor Richard and Annette; grandsons and their wives, Robert and Bobbie and their children, Robert Jr., Austin and Alexis Taylor of Rolfe, Iowa, and Timothy and Sabrina and their children, Joe Minkler, Philip Minkler, Brandon Taylor, and Breyanne Minkler of Pocahontas, Iowa; nephews, Roger (Sharon) Bowman of Elkton, Md., and Keith (Meri)Bowman of Elmhurst, Del., and their families and cousins. We thank you heavenly Father for Ellen, mom and mommom, for the great blessing she has been in our lives all these years.

Ellen died on Friday, March 10, 2017, at Rotary Senior Living in Eagle Grove. Foust Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
