Gordon P. Sandman, age 77, of Belmond, IA, died, Sunday, March 12, 2017, at Fairview Medical Center-University of Minnesota Hospitals, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Visitation will be Thursday, March 16, 2017 from 5-7:30 p.m. at Andrews Funeral Homes in Belmond, Iowa. Funeral Services will be Friday, March 17, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Belmond, Iowa. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the church on Friday, March 17, 2017.

Gordon Paul Sandman was born in Belmond, Iowa, September 16th, 1939, to Harm B. and Barbara (Gealow) Sandman. Gordon was baptized and confirmed at Saint John Lutheran Church in Belmond. He attended Belmond school and graduated in 1957. Gordon married the love of his life, Diane Frohling, August 8th, 1970. Two wonderful daughters were born to this union, Mary in 1971 and Lisa in 1973. Gordon began his career at Packard Electric May 10thh, 19757 and retired in January, 2005. He served in the Belmond Fire Department for 31 years, the Belmond Hospital Foundation for many years and was also a member of the Belmond Jaycees for several years. Gordon enjoyed numerous deer hunting trips to Wyoming, card club trips, ski trips to Colorado, and fishing trips to Minnesota and Canada. All of these trips were spent with wonderful friends. After retirement Gordon looked forward to spending winters in Arizona. He was a lifelong Iowa Hawkeye fan and a longtime football season ticket holder. Gordon has been an active member at Trinity Lutheran Church serving on various boards and council through the years. He especially enjoyed the adult Sunday school class, church choir and Small Group. Gordon always had a song in his heart and very often expressed it.

Gordon is preceded in death by his father, Harm B. Sandman, and his mother, Barbara Sandman. Gordon is survived by his wife, Diane Sandman, daughters Mary Whitney (Tom), and Lisa Madsen (Scott); grandchildren, Trenton (15) and Tyler (15) Whitney, and Abigail (15), Cole (13) and Jace (9) Madsen. Memorials may be given to the Belmond Hospital Foundation, Trinity Lutheran Church, or to the charity of your choice.
