Esther Claudein (Staley) Howell, the daughter of Claude M. and Maud (Johnson) Staley, was born April 20, 1930, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, where she was raised and educated. On January 3, 1948, Esther was united in marriage to Lonnie W.
Howell, in Fort Dodge. The couple made their home in Eagle Grove and raised five children. Esther passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at the age of 86 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, June, Katherine, Grace, Connie, and Howard (Bud); husband, Lonnie in 1995; and son, Kelly in 1991; Esther is survived by four children: Steve Howell, Valerie Mohr, Diane Como (Bill), and Lonnie Howell, all of Eagle Grove; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, June 20, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the VFW in Eagle Grove. Burial will be at a later date in Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorials will go towards the purchase of a headstone and may be sent to Shannon Resh, 120 N. Cadwell, Eagle Grove, IA.
