Elmer Harold Olson, Jr. the son of Elmer H. and Gornelia (Peterson) Olson Sr., was born August 15, 1924, in Thor, Iowa. He graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1942. On June 3, 1951, Elmer was united in marriage to Shirley Hayek in Callender, Iowa. They lived in Vincent for 9 years and Moorland for 9 years before moving to Eagle Grove in 1968. Elmer was a member of Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church. From barbershopping to church choir, music has been a significant part of Elmer's life since childhood.

Elmer passed away Monday, February 20, 2017, at his home in Eagle Grove at the age of 92 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Willetta O'Brion, Jodella Nelson Legvold, Elnor Nelson and Harriet Schonberger and a brother, Willard Olson. Elmer is survived by his wife, Shirley Olson of Eagle Grove; children, Barbara Olson of Helena, MT, Eldean (Cheryl Ann) Olson of Eagle Grove, Lori Olson of Eagle Grove and Andrea (Mark) Scherting of Helena, MT; grandchildren, Brent Sadler, Blake Sadler, Scott Sadler, Madeline Scherting and Braden Scherting; several great-grandchildren; sister, Laurine Nelson of Minneapolis, MN; two sisters-in-law, Sandie Hutchinson of Mesa, AZ and Margaret Olson of Harlan, IA.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 25, 2017, at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Jason Cooper officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until service time at the church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
