Anna (DeWaard) Uken, 98, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, Feb 20, 2017 at the Kanawha Community Home. Funeral services for Anna Uken will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 25, 2017, at Kanawha Christian Reformed Church, 129 East Third Street in Kanawha with Pastor Brian Hofman officiating. Interment will follow at Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Anna and her late husband, Harm Uken, were well-known farmers in the Kanawha community and long time members of Kanawha Christian Reformed Church. Anna was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, family member, and friend. She was well known for her gentle spirit, hospitality and hard work, and her homemade cooking. She was born in Kansas and spent most of her life around Kanawha, Iowa. She enjoyed simple pleasures and was the happiest when at home feeding and spending time with those she loved. Anna had a quiet strength that was rooted in her relationship with her savior, Jesus Christ.
She experienced many losses and was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of over 65 years, her siblings and many friends. She is survived by her three children and their spouses: John and Mary Ann Meyer, Ronald and Suzanne Miel-Uken, and Harvey and Beverly Uken. She leaves behind 9 grandchildren and 23 great grand children. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Betty Schreur and many nephews and nieces.
The family extends deepest gratitude and appreciation for the loving care given over many years to Anna by Char Schreur, her niece. Memorials in Anna’s honor may be made to the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church, the Kanawha Christian School, Christian Reformed Church World Missions (Rev. Ben and Amy Meyer Mexico Mission), and World Renew. Please join the family in celebrating her life and legacy.
