September 2, 1922 ---- January 30, 2017

Irene Lorraine Magennis passed away peacefully on Monday, January 30, 2017 at Friendship Haven, Fort Dodge. Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 3, 2017 in the Chapel of Laufer­sweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and then 10:30 a.m. a Mass of Christian Burial will be at Corpus Christi Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating. Burial will be at Corpus Christi Cemetery. A visitation will be Thursday 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with a C.D.A. Rosary at 4:30 p.m.

Irene L. Bilek was born in Dows on September 2, 1922, the fourth child of Frank and Louise Bilek. Her family moved to Fort Dodge when she was quite young. Irene graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1940. She always loved music and played the clarinet in the high school band. Following graduation she attended Tobin Business College and went to work for Certainteed Corporation for several years. Irene married the love of her life; Richard Magennis, on July 1, 1944. They started their family of seven children in 1947. As the children grew older, she worked for Fort Dodge Iron and Metal. Irene retired in 1986. She was a very hard worker taking care of her home and family. She enjoyed playing cards and golfing at the American Legion course. Irene was a member of the Marian Home Auxillary and accepted life’s pains with grace and deep faith. Irene moved into assisted living at Friendship Haven in 2007. She was later transitioned into the skilled nursing facility where she was a joy to all around her.

Irene is survived by her children, Mary Magennis of Rochester, NY; John Magennis of Des Moines; Elizabeth (Carl) Christensen of Urbandale; Patty (Randy) Ross of Overland Park, KS; Mark (Julie) Magennis of Platte City, MO; Denny Magennis of Fort Dodge; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; stillborn son, Matthew; brothers, Lewis; Leonard; and Karl Bilek; sisters, Josephine Weis and Mildred Olson. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
