November 25, 1922 ---- February 10, 2017

Mabel Odella (Jacobson) Odland, the daughter of Carl and Carrie (Knudson) Jacobson, was born November 25, 1922, in her parent's home on a farm near Badger, Iowa. On February 22, 1946, Mabel was united in marriage with Irvin Milo Odland, at the Trinity Lutheran Church near Humboldt. Mabel helped manage a dairy, grain and livestock farm with her husband for 37 years – farming near Clarion from 1946-1967 and near Eagle Grove from 1967 – 1984. In 1983, they moved to an acreage west of Eagle Grove, into a home they had built by her brother and nephew, Al and John Jacobson, she was able to stay in her home until shortly after her 93rd birthday. Mabel then moved to Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake, where she enjoyed many visits from family and friends.

Mabel loved to cook, bake, garden, sew and help on the farm. She especially enjoyed feeding and caring for her family – pies, kringla and bread were just a few of her specialties. Mabel was also a talented seamstress, sewing prom dresses, wedding dresses, clothes and quilts for her family and World Relief.

Mabel was a charter member of the Troy Culture Club, an active member of Samuel Lutheran Church, the Women's Church Circle, a Sunday school teacher and a participant in the church's annual Norwegian dinner and bake sale fund raiser. Mabel was an avid reader and had a great listening ear for her family and friends. Her secret was that she really did care for them – she lived a long, good life and will be greatly missed by those who loved her.

Mabel passed away Friday, February 10, 2017, at Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake, Iowa, at the age of 94 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Irvin; six siblings: Burnette Helm, Connie Kamp, Genevieve Thompson, Alma Odland, Alfred Jacobson and Bennie Jacobson; four half-brothers: Theodore, Clarence, Paul and Elmer Jacobson; two step-brothers, Amos and Marian Munson and step-sister, Viola Armstrong. She is survived by her children: Ruth and Steve Anderson of Boone, IA, Duane and Donita of Wasilla, AK, Ken and Jane Odland of Newton, IA, Mark and Pam Odland of Dows, IA, and Kathy and Burt Bottjen of Clear Lake, IA; grandchildren: Melissa Anderson (Kassi Colman), Cole Anderson, Gretchen and Stacy Thorson, Brant and Sarah Odland, Megan and Jay Nystrom, Nathan Odland, Kendra Odland, Michael Odland, (Jenni Zinnel), Wesley Odland (James Holter), Sheryl and Ankur Tandon, Rachel & Marc Brouillette and Amanda & Ben Janson; great grandchildren: Emma and Sadie Odland, Madalyn and Mackenzie Nystrom, Fisher and Chase Thorson, Aryana Tandon and Kira Brouillette and her half-brother, Paul's wife, Beverly Jacobson.
