Steven Bradley Hoath, 67, of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center after experiencing a hemorrhagic stroke.

Steven was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Gordon and Cleolis Hoath in 1949. He was educated in the Iowa public schools and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1967. He went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts in Biology and German Studies from Stanford University in 1972 and his Medical Doctorate from the University of California-Los Angeles in 1976. Later in 1976, he married Michelle Robnett in Cerritos, California and, in 1978, celebrated the birth of his first daughter, Danielle. In 1984, he was married to Sheri Brickner, his life-long partner, in San Jose California. They had two beautiful children together: Bradley David, firstborn son, born 1987, and Julie Autumn, born in 1991.

Steven Hoath was the Director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the Medical Director of the Skin Sciences Program at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. He was a true intellectual and an expert in perinatology with multiple published articles and textbook chapters. Steven received the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development Clinical Investigator Award (1985-1987). In 1994, he was one of seven international investigators participating in the first joint effort by NASA and the National Institutes of Health to study the effect of spaceflight and zero gravity on mammalian pregnancy and fetal development. His later research into the Vernix as a natural biofilm and epidermal protectant changed obstetric and neonatal practice. He was an inventor on five patents awarded to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital based on this research. Steven retired from Children’s Hospital, but still worked at Mercy Anderson until recently. He was adored by the nursing staff. He was named Emeritus, University of Cincinnati Department of Pediatrics.

Aside from intellectual pursuits, Steven enjoyed music, reading, tending to plants especially orchids, traveling, and the color blue. He lived life spiritually and one day at a time. He loved life’s journey. He was a devoted husband, son, father, and grandfather.

Steven leaves behind his beloved wife Sheri of Cincinnati, Ohio; his daughter Danielle and her husband Christian, of Clifton, New Jersey; his son Bradley David of Baltimore, Maryland; and his daughter Julie Autumn of St. Louis, Missouri. He is survived by his cherished mother, Cleolis, and only brother Thomas Clinton, of Kimberling City, Missouri. He also leaves behind granddaughter Olivia Marie and grandson Devin Xavier of Clifton, New Jersey. He is predeceased by his father Gordon Elmer, paternal grandparents James Clinton Hoath and Mable Vereen Sluss, and maternal grandparents Thomas Howard Bradley and Raye Sanders.

On Thursday, January 26, 2017, A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11a.m., followed by a gathering of friends from 12-2 p.m. at Mihovk-Rosenacker Funeral Home, 10211 Plainfield Rd., Evendale, Ohio. Jana Reister will be officiating.
