He attended the county schools and was an active member of the Lake Lutheran church until he left the community to complete his education in early manhood. He attended Iowa State college at Ames and was graduated with the degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in June, 1927. Immediately following his graduation, he settled and began his practice in Dumont where a year later in 1928, he married Clair Hazel Cannon. They had three daughters, JoAnn, Clair Javotte, and Judith Lea. In 1943 Dr. Lerdal's health began to fail and he entered the Oakdale sanitorium where he remained until the spring of 1945 when he returned to his home greatly improved. In the spring of 1946 he felt his condition was again becoming serious and he entered the Lutheran sanitorium at Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Here he received the best of medical care, but passed away at 5 o'clock in the afternoon, August 29, 1946.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Hazel, three daughter, JoAnn, Javotte, and Judy; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ole C. Lerdal of Goldfield; two brothers. Orten of Goldfield and Lloyd of Belmond; three sisters, Myrtle Luthro of Eagle Grove, Lillian Tyler of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Helen Campbell of Los Angeles, Calif; and many nieces and nephews. Dr. Lerdal was highly respected, not only as a capable veterinarian, but as a friend and neighbor who was always anxious to help anyone who needed him. His death is a great loss to all who knew him.
