Lloyd H. Christenson, 96, passed away Monday, January 9, 2017, at Sartori Memorial Hospital, Cedar Falls, IA. Lloyd lived and farmed in the Belmond, Iowa, area for most of his life prior to Cedar Falls, to be near his daughter Nancy. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, January 12, 2017, at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church west of Belmond. Pastor Jim Gochenouer will be officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by the Belmond Military Unit will be in the Belmond Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM, Wednesday, at the Andrews Funeral Home, 516 1st street Southeast, Belmond, and will continue one hour prior to the services at church Thursday.

Lloyd was born to Oluf and Anna (Wenos) Christenson, March 29, 19201, on the family farm near Kanawha, Iowa. Lloyd attended Norway Township rural school through the eighth grade, then became a farm hand. He was baptized in Christian faith at St. Olaf Lutheran Church where he was an active member most of his life, serving on the council and involved in small group Bible Study.

Lloyd was married on January 29, 1942, in Maryville, MO, to Eunice Ellingston of Belmond, Iowa. With the emergence of World War II, Lloyd enlisted in Air Force. During that time, he attended Allison Engine School at Indiana Central College which enabled him to become and airplane inspector over maintenance. He was later deployed to California where Eunice was able to join him. Lloyd continued his job description for most of the three remaining years in the military. Time and again, Lloyd and Eunice would reflect upon those unique experiences serving their country.

With the ending of the war, Lloyd and Eunice returned to Iowa in 1945 with their daughter, Nancy Lynn. Their son Charles Lloyd (Chuck) joined the little family a few years later. They made their home on the family farm where Lloyd pursued his life raising hogs and farming the land. In the late 1960's, Lloyd and Eunice moved to their home in Belmond.

Lloyd continued farming for several more years, however, found he had time to work at the Belmond Lumber Yard during the winter months. During this time, Lloyd discovered his passion for creating with wood. Soon he had little cars and trucks lined up for his grandchildren to enjoy. Eventually, he would be found taking on larger projects in his shop. Lloyd seemed to make friends most everywhere life found him. His family, grandchildren, and later his great grandchildren were his greatest enjoyment.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter Nancy and husband Neil Stadlman of Cedar Falls, IA, daughter-in-law Linda Hagen and husband Gary of Wells, MN; four grandchildren, Braden (Rebecca) Stadlman and great grandsons, Levi, Wyatt, and Owen of Golden Valley, MN, Mike Christenson of Prior Lake, MN, Breon Stadlman of Minneapolis, MN, and Amy Christenson of London, UK. Other survivors include, brother-in-law Ray (Becky) Ellingston, Belmond, IA, sister-in-law Opal Ellingston of Nashville, Tennesee, nieces and nephews and extended family members. Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife Eunice, his parents, four brothers and four sisters, one sister in infancy, and son Charles (Chuck). Memorials may be directed to Christian Crusaders or St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Belmond.
