Mrs. Anna Gustafson died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. T. Johnson Monday, June 22, after an illness of several weeks. Burial services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Kubitschek & Kastler funeral home. The following tribute to her memory and history of her life was prepared and read at the funeral service by the Rev. Severtson.
Anna Carlson was born in Cottenburg, Sweden, Dec. 4, 1857. She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. T. Johnson, 120 S. Park Avenue, Eagle Grove, Iowa, June 22, 1931, at the age of 73 years, 6 months, and 18 days. She was baptized into Christ Jesus in infancy, received instruction and confessed her Christian faith in the Lutheran church of her childhood home. On Dec. 20, 1878 she was united in marriage to John Gustafson at Stockholm, Sweden. They were permitted to enjoy an unusually long married life, more than 52 years.
Mr. and Mrs. Gustafson came to live in the United States in 1880, and have lived more than 50 years continuously in Webster County, Iowa, the most part of this time being on their farm near Evanston.
Eleven children were born into this home, three of these having passed away from this life before their mother. Eight are still living and together with her husband, now experience the loss of a loving wife and mother. Those living are: Mrs. M. E. Dixon, Eagle Grove, Mrs. J. T. Johnson, Eagle Grove, Mrs. Rudolph Moenck, Duncombe, Mrs. James Novotny, Chicago, IL, Mrs. Martin Hanson, Los Angeles, CA, Mrs. Walter Williams, Ft. Dodge, Adolph Gustafson, Ft. Dodge, and Walter Gustafson. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Also by one brother and one sister still in Sweden. Mrs. Gustafson suffered a great deal now during her illness of several weeks but slept away peacefully Monday evening, June 22 at about 9 o'clock. May the memory of mother and grandmother be a blessing to her children and grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, June 24 at 2:30 from the Kubitschek & Kastler Funeral Home. Burial was made in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
