Virgil DeVere Hotz was born May 8, 1925, the son of Charles and Lulu Thompson Hotz at Eagle Grove. He attended school in Eagle Grove and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1943. He was employed by Maplewood Dairy of Eagle Grove for many years but spent most of his working life employed by Boone Valley Cooperative Processing Association and retired in 1983.

He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. Virgil had recently become ill. He died at Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge, November 7, 1988, at the age of 63 years, five months, and 29 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Teddy Gilbert at age seven; and Charles Lindsey, as an infant; and one sister, Delphia Brensdal. He is survived by his two brothers, Millard and Albert, both of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Virgil Hotz were held November 9, at 2 p.m. at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. The Rev. Paul Schaedig officiated and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. The Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
