November 29, 1903 --- April 29, 1989

Verna M. Sharp, 85, Clarion, died at Clarion Community Memorial Hospital on Saturday morning, April 29, 1989 of cancer. Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at two o'clock from the United Church of Christ Congregational with Rev. Steven J. Lashbrook officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery at Clarion. The Eyler-Willim Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Casket bearers were: Harlan Poolman, Bob Stevens, Shirley Stevens, Robert Loux, Robert Tysdal and Jim Erickson. JoAnn Olson was the organist and Laurie Lashbrook was the vocalist.

Verna Maurine Sharp was born in Nora Springs on November 29, 1903 to W. F. and Ida May (Cottrill) Tatum. She was a graduate of Nora Springs High School in 1921. She attended Des Moines University and received her BA degree from Iowa State Teachers College. She was a teacher in Springville, Clarion, Rowan, CAL Community and Goldfield schools. On January 1, 1930 she married Francis Edwin Sharp at the home of her parents in Nora Springs. The couple spent most of their married life in Clarion. Verna was a very active member of the United Church of Christ Congregational, holding many offices over the years. She was a member of Adah Chapter OES, Clarion; Kensington Club; AAUW; Genealogical Club; Clarion Federated Women's Club and various social clubs.

Survivors include three daughters, Donna Sehmann of Cresco; Mrs. Floyd (Lora) Kemp of Jackson, Michigan; Mrs. Roy (Bonny) Shay of Saquache, Colo.; nine grandchildren; one great grandchild; a brother, Fred E. Tatum of Glendale, California and a sister, Dorothea Stewart of Mason City. Preceding her in death were her parents, a brother, Verle and her husband in 1968.
