May 31, 1925 ---- December 5, 1980

Funeral services for William J. Kopps were held from the United Methodist Church in Clarion on Monday morning at ten-thirty. Rev. Richard T. Hohl and Rev. Charles P. Byers conducted the service and arrangements were by the Eyler-Willim Funeral Home. Military honors were given at Evergreen Cemetery by the Clarion American Legion and V.F.W. Special music at the funeral was by Rev. and Mrs. Byers. Casket bearers were Bill Clausen, Bob Nasheim, Doug Angel, Richard Kopps, Clifford Quitney and Jack Gueff.

Bill was born on May 31, 1925 at Mason City and was the son of William R. and Julia Eling Kopps. He died at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, on December 5, 1980, where he had been a patient for the past four weeks. During World War II he served with the U.S. Navy for 50 months and in the Korean War he served again for 16 months. He had attended business college after World War II. On June 4, 1950, he was married to Margaret Yahnkey at Ledyard, Iowa and they came to Clarion in 1954. He was a real estate broker and an insurance broker.

His wife survives with three children Mrs. Gaylord (Vicki) Victora of Des Moines and William Jeffrey and Marcus, both of Ames. He is also survived by two brothers, Oswald and Shirley and three sisters, Mrs. Robert (Eva) Nasheim, Mrs. Bud (Velma) Gueff and Mrs. Francis (Betty) Angel, all of Mason City. His parents, one brother and two sisters preceded him in death.

Mr. Kopps was a member of the United Methodist Church, the president of the North Central Iowa Genealogist - Mason City, the Clarion American Legion and V.F.W. He had served as the Commander of the Clarion and Wright County American Legion. He had been a past member of the Clarion Community Hospital Board and served as chairman. He was the first president of the Clarion Coin Collectors and had been a vice-president of the Clarion Jaycees.
