Marian A. Newcomb, 81, of Eagle Grove, died Tuesday, October 26, 2004, at the Wright Medical Center in Clarion. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a m on Saturday, October 30, 2004 with Rev. Mary K. Green officiating.
Marian Arlene Newcomb was born on December 12, 1922, in Webster City, Iowa, the daughter of Herbert and Bessie (Frederick) Black. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth, graduating from Webster City High School with the Class of 1941. Marian worked for Meredith Publishing in Des Moines. On February 23, 1947, she married Donald Newcomb at Webster City. The couple made their home in Eagle Grove, living on the farm until moving to their current home, south of town. Marian was a member of the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove and the Martha Circle. She also belonged to the "Equality Club", Antique Club, Forum and Fine Arts Club, Rotary Ann Auxiliary, and was active with the Rotary Ann Home. Marian enjoyed sewing, painting, shopping, and traveling. Marian and Don wintered in Arizona for several years.
She is survived by her husband, Don, of Eagle Grove; sons: Terry Newcomb and his wife, Karen, of Clarion; Ron Newcomb, and his wife, Leslie, of Centerville, Ohio; and Dave Newcomb, and his wife, Patty, of Wheaton, Ill.; grandchildren: Chris Newcomb and his wife, Teri; Lisa Wayman and her husband, Mark; Matthew, Erica, Austin, Dylan, and Morgan Newcomb; great-grandchildren: Jacob, Nathan, Maggie, Carly, and Nick; sisters: Mayabelle Floyd and Mildred Pringle; and brothers: Francis, Richard, and Harvey Black. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Marcia Ann Jochims on September 23, 1985; and two sisters: Marcella Bige and Marjone Eide.
The Foust Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of the arrangements.
