Lloyd "Cal" Paul Collopy
December 30, 1925 ---- October 18, 2016Lloyd “Cal” Collopy, 90, of Rochester, [Minnesota] and formerly of Lake City and Frontenac, passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at the Samaritan Bethany Home on Eighth in Rochester.
Lloyd Paul Collopy was born December 30, 1925 in Hawarden, IA to Paul and Minnie (Eastman) Collopy. He graduated from high school on May 19, 1943 in Eagle Grove, IA. He served his country in the US Army Air Force during WWII from June 3, 1944 to November 1, 1945. On November 28, 1947 he married Helen Schmidt in Rochester. Cal received his Bachelor of Arts Degree, May 23, 1949 from Iowa State Teachers College (now University of Northern Iowa), and his Master of Science Degree on August 1, 1958 from Stout State College, (now University of Wisconsin, Stout). He also received additional education from the University of Minnesota, Winona State University, Mankato State University, and the University of Northern Iowa. Cal was a Mathematics and Industrial Arts teacher in Benson, MN. from 1949 to 1952, Robbinsdale, MN. from 1952 to 1953, and Rochester from 1953 to 1967. He served as Assistant Principal of Mayo High School, Central Junior High, and Kellogg Junior High in Rochester from 1967 to 1986. Cal retired in June of 1986 and they moved to Old Frontenac in October of 1986.
Cal was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Lake City, Upper Hiawatha Valley Retired Educators Association, Rochester Lodge No. 21 A.F. & A. M., Halcyon Chapter No. 8 Royal Arch Masons, Tyrian Council No. 4, Home Commandery No. 5, and Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. He was a past president of Rochester Education Association and Kiwanis Club of Lake. He was a past High Priest of the Halcyon Chapter No. 8, and past Patron of Rochester Chapter No. 193 Order of the Eastern Star.
Cal is survived by his loving wife of almost 69 years, Helen Collopy of Rochester; two sons, Paul (Sandy) Collopy of Rochester, and Gary (Michelle) Collopy of Inver Grove Heights; five grandchildren, Jonathan, Jason (Brandy), Justin, Erin, and Michael; one great-grandchild, Tesla; and one sister, Ellen Nelson of Waupaca, WI, He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and two brothers.
A memorial service for Lloyd "Cal" Collopy will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rochester, with the Rev. Adam Koglin officiating. A visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. Saturday until the time of service at the church.
