Sandra Lou Schrage, was born January 31, 1944, in Fort Dodge, the daughter of Silas C. and Ferne L. Crom Schrage. She graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1962. She received her BA Degree in Physical Education from UNI in 1967, and pursued her post graduate education at Drake, South Western State of Oklahoma and UNI. She was employed as a physical education-health instructor in the LaPorte City schools, before going to the Independence schools in 1971. She taught in Independence from 1971 - 1988 as physical education and health instructor. In June, 1988, she moved to Spring Lake, Minn., to operate the Island View Resort. Sandra was a member of the National Education Association, Iowa Education Association, Independence Teachers Association, Past president, Iowa Association of Health, PE, Recreation and Dance, served on committee for girls and women in sports for Iowa High School Athletic Association. She served as advisory counselor for CPR in Butler County, as Wellness-Physical Fitness Director in Independence, a member of Wapsipinicon Golf Club and served as president of the Women's Division.

Sandra Lou Schrage, 45, Spring Lake Minn., died Friday, June 9, 1989, at Community Memorial Hospital in Deer River, Minn. She was preceded in death by her father in 1974 and her grandparents. She is survived by her mother, Iowa Falls; and one sister, Mrs. George (Judith) Berg of Rochester, Minn. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 13 at 11 a.m. in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence, with the Rev. Dale Halverson officiating, Burial was in Hampton Cemetery, Hampton, Iowa.
