James Lee Thompsen, 83, of Princeton [Illinois] passed away Sept. 23, 2016, at Heritage Health Care in Walnut. Services were at 11 a.m. today in First Lutheran Church, Princeton. The Rev. Norm Femrite will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date. Norberg Memorial Home, Princeton, is in charge of arrangements.

James was born Feb. 27, 1933, in Estherville, Iowa to Albert Peter and Emma Louise (Andresen) Thompsen. He married Louise Fredrickson on Nov. 7, 1964, in First Lutheran Church in Princeton.

He graduated from Belmond High School [Belmond, Iowa], and then Upper Iowa University. He served in Korea for the U.S. Army. He taught high school in Wisconsin for two years and then was employed by Farmers Mutual Insurance for 35 years. James was the former president of Bureau Valley Country Club, and a member of the Princeton Moose Lodge, The Elks Club and Princeton Fish and Game.

He is survived by his wife, Louise of Princeton; one son, Will (Lori) Thompsen of Waynesville, N.C; one daughter, Kirsten (Lee) Johnson of Walnut; four grandchildren, Hannah (Jake) Cadwell, Olivia (Scott) Lennon, Josian Johnston and Tommy Johnston; one stepgranddaughter, Stephanie (Chad) Shepherd; two sisters, Shay (Doc) Maris of Spirit Lake, Iowa and Carole (Larry) Kinports of Largo, Fla; one brother, Douglas (Fonda) Thompsen of Belmond, Iowa; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church of Princeton or the Alzheimer’s Association in remembrance of James.
