June 18, 1866 ---- March 19, 1914
The many friends of Mr. Charles Rounds were shocked at the news of his sudden death which occurred in Tilden, Nebr., March 19th where he had gone on account of the serious illness of his father. Mr. Rounds seemed as well as usual when he left here. As the train neared Ames he was taken with a severe headache. Thinking it would clear away soon he continued his trip, when he arrived at Tilden he was helpless and scarcely able to speak. But he was among friends, and was taken to the home of his sister Mrs. Ashburn. Medical aid was summoned. The family here was notified. Mrs. Rounds went immediately and his son Doremus soon followed. All that earthly love and skill could do was done for his recovery, it proved to be a stroke of paralysis. He continued to fail until the end came. His father lay ill in the adjoining room but each was too sick to see the other.
He was born in Lafayette, Stark Co., Ill., June 18, 1866. He was married Sept. 24, 1884 at Liscomb, Ia., to Miss Eva Walton who survives him. There were eight children Doremus, Charles, Mrs. Ethel Prehm, Oristus, and Meta all of Eagle Grove. Three children died in infancy. He was greatly endeared to his family. Mr. Rounds had lived here more than twenty years.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. G. L. Hart at the Baptist church Sunday March 22nd. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. The church was entirely filled with friends. Those from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Chrisman, Morgan Walton, and daughter Minnie, and Mrs. Jesse Landes, all of Whitten, Ia. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Oliver of Jeffers, Minn., and Mr. and Mrs. John Ashburn, sister of Mr. Rounds. The burial was in Rose Hill cemetery.
