SARAH BELLE HAMER MAIER
Sarah Belle Hamer was born Nov. 10, 1891 in Woolstock Township, Wright County, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas and Margaret Jones Hamer. She was educated in a rural school near Eagle Grove. On January 1, 1913, she was united in marriage to Joseph Maier of Eagle Grove, Iowa. The couple made their home on a farm east of Eagle Grove and farmed until moving to Eagle Grove in 1953. Mr. Maier died in 1976. Sarah continued to make her home, living by herself until going to the hospital, returning home, and then entering the Clarion Community Hospital two weeks ago where she died on Sunday, Nov. 30, 1986 at the age of 95 years and 20 days. She is survived by three sons: Joseph Maier Jr, Eagle Grove; Richard Maier, Eagle Grove; Bernard Maier, Eagle Grove; two daughters, Lucille (Mrs. John) Crovisier, Eagle Grove and Virginia (Mrs. John) Maher, Westfield, New Jersey, 21 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joseph, two brothers, Morris and Harvey Hamer; and seven sisters: Margaret Fischer, Elizabeth Amerson; Mary Mosher; Lavina Williamson, Alice Landon, Eva Keppers and Lydia Tallman. There were two children who died in infancy, a daughter Jane and son Thomas Jr. Sarah was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the KYN Club, and various card clubs. Scripture service was held at 7:30 Tuesday at the funeral home. Funeral services for Sarah Belle Maier were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, 1986 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove. Rev. John Herzog officiated and burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
