Mrs. Malinda Severeid

Malinda Taletta Kaltvedt was born in Aardal, Norway, April 27, 1863, and died at the home of her granddaughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Arneson, on December 11, 1943, at the age of 80 years, 7 months and 13 days. She was the daughter of Peter and Guri Kaltvedt and enjoyed the blessing of a sincere Christian home and Christian training. She was baptized into the Lutheran church June 11, 1863, and confirmed September 30, 1877 by Rev. Paul Klopgaard.

With her parents she emigrated by sailboat to the United States at the age of 16, and settled in Creston, Ill., where the family lived for three years. From there they moved to the vicinity near Roland, where she lived, with the exception of two years at Belmond, until her death.

In 1888 she married Rasmus Larson who preceded her in death in 1895. To this union four children were born, Louis and Olous of Roland, Elmer of Nevada, and Gemelia, who preceded her mother in death July 14, 1921. She also leaves to mourn her death, four grandchildren, Mrs. Ben Arneson of Roland, and Sgt. Ronald Severeid with the U.S. Air Forces in England, who, since the loss of their mother in early childhood, she has brought up, and it was at the home of the granddaughter, Mrs. Myrtle Arneson, that she was cared for during her last illness, and also the grandchildren Mary Anne and Warren Larson of Nevada. She also leave one great grandchild, James Arneson of Roland. She later married Ole A. Severeid who also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Severeid has been a member of Bergen Lutheran congregation since coming to the Roland vicinity. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon with a short prayer service at the Arneson home and at Bergen Lutheran church, Rev. Allen E. Nelson in charge. Special music was furnished at the funeral services with solos by Mrs. T. A. Sorem and Mrs. Archie Larson, Pall bearers were former neighbors of the deceased, C. H. Risdal, R. J. Myrland, S. B. Kilstofte, Lars Sloaar, Silas Strum and Eli Johnson. Interment was made in the Roland cemetery. Among those from out of town in attendance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Larson, Mary Anne and Warren of Nevada, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Knutson of Ellsworth, Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Ose of McCallsburg, Mr. and Mrs. Lars Skaar and Mr. and Mrs. I. J. Hill of Story City.
