HUMBOLDT - Gladys M. Slaikeu, 80, of Humboldt, passed away August 25, 2016 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 3, 2016 at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Christy Ehrle officiating. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield. Visitation with the family is from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.

Gladys is survived by her husband of 59 years, Perry Slaikeu of Humboldt; her children, Glenda (John) Giese of Carlisle, IA, Scot (Colleen) Slaikeu of Dakota City, IA, Kevin (Melissa) Slaikeu of Humboldt, IA, and Mark (Sandy) Slaikeu of Eagan, MN; 12 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 4 step great-grandchildren; and her sister, Bertha Mae Bjornson of Des Moines, IA. Her parents and two brothers preceded her in death.

Gladys M. Slaikeu, 80, of Humboldt, passed away August 25, 2016 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Gladys Marie Kiley, the daughter of Tom and Marie (Vroman) Kiley, was born June 26, 1936 on a farm near Renwick in Wright County, Iowa. She received her education in Renwick and graduated from Renwick High School with the class of 1955. On March 2, 1957, Gladys was united in marriage to Perry Slaikeu at the United Methodist Church in Humboldt. Gladys was a housewife and homemaker and loved to bake for all of the family gatherings. She was actively involved in both girls and boys scouting, guiding her daughter and sons through their God and Country and Eagle Scout awards. Gladys enjoyed camping with the family and baking peach cobbler in the dutch oven at the campsite. Gladys adored children as was obvious through her many years of volunteering as a Sunday School teacher. She supported her sons wrestling careers through her involvement in the wrestling boosters and working the food stand at the Gotch and high school tournaments. During the annual Christmas Tree Walk at the Faith United Methodist Church, Gladys was fond of managing the refreshments for the numerous buses touring the festivities. Gladys was also an active member of United Methodist Women for many years. She had a passion for making crafts and sharing them with family and friends. She was known for her crosses and kept her holiday tree decorated with hand made ornaments for every holiday.

Gladys is survived by her husband of 59 years, Perry Slaikeu of Humboldt; her children, Glenda (John) Giese of Carlisle, IA, Scot (Colleen) Slaikeu of Dakota City, IA, Kevin (Melissa) Slaikeu of Humboldt, IA, and Mark (Sandy) Slaikeu of Eagan, MN; grandchildren, Jessica (Shallom) Doty of Oskaloosa, IA, Erica (Ryan) Groom of New Sharon, IA, Lisa (Mike) Bruellman of Ottosen, IA, Cole Slaikeu of Urbandale, IA, Joshua (Mindi) Slaikeu of Thor, IA, Mike (Trish) Slaikeu of Humboldt, IA, Tim (Sara) Slaikeu of Williamsport, PA, Casey (Courtney) Slaikeu of Whittemore, IA, Nathan Slaikeu of Humboldt, IA, Kayla Slaikeu, Amanda Slaikeu, and Emma Slaikeu all of Eagan, MN; step grandchildren, Kalie (Cory) Patterson of New Sharon, IA and Dakota Giese of Fremont, IA; great grandchildren, Taylor and Pyper Doty, Libby, Ryan, Aydan, and Ely Groom, Michaela and Lincoln Bruellman, Mikinli and Hollin Slaikeu, and Drake and Jaxon Slaikeu; 4 step great grandchildren, Baylie and Austin Patterson, Riley Giese, and Sadie Doty; and her sister, Bertha Mae Bjornson of Des Moines, IA. Her parents and two brothers preceded her in death.
