Funeral services for Margaret E. G. Beveridge, 93, of Washington, Iowa were held January 24, 1995 at United Presbyterian Church in Washington. Beveridge died January 22 at United Presbyterian Home in Washington following a brief illness. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Williamsburg.
Margaret Woodburn [should be Gracey] was born March 24, 1901 in Allerton, Iowa. She graduated from Allerton High School in 1918 and from Monmouth College in 1922 with a triple major in chemistry, English and speech. She taught in McGregor, Anamosa and Newton. On August 18, 1928 she married G. Wiley Beveridge in Allerton. He was managing editor for the weekly newspaper in Lacon, Illinois until 1930 when he purchased the Sumner Gazette. In 1949 G. Wiley Beveridge bought the Wright County Monitor in Clarion and the family lived in Clarion until the sale of that newspaper in 1957. They then moved to Willaimsburg where he had bought the Williamsburg Journal Tribune. After the purchase of the Journal Tribune, Margaret Beveridge joined the business actively as office manager and news editor. Their son Reid was also active in the business until it was sold in 1975. The Beveridges moved to Washington in April, 1975. He died in 1976. Following his death she began writing the United Presbyterian Home news for the Washington Evening Journal.
Survivors include one son, Reid of Washington, D.C. She was preceded in death by her husband and one sister, Sarah G. Brown.
