Jack Eugene Porter, the son of Kenneth and Doris Waggoner Porter, was born at Mr Pleasant, Iowa on Feb. 21, 1949. He lived with his parents at Des Moines and Sibley and in 1953 the family moved to Eagle Grove, where Jack grew up and graduated from the Eagle Grove High School in the Class of 1967. He attended the University of Northern Iowa and graduated in 1971 with a BA degree. On Sept. 5, 1970, he was united in marriage with Barbara Fritz at Churdan. After his graduation from UNI, the couple made their home in Kingsley and Jack was the Instrumental Music Instructor at the Kingsley-Pierson Schools for several years.

For the past year, the family lived at Hanover, Kan., where he was a student at the Saint Paul School of Theology in Kansas City. He is a long-time member of the United Methodist Church. He died Saturday night, Nov. 10, 1984 at the St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, where he had been a patient for the past few days. He attained the age of 35 years, 8 months and 19 days.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Porter; two children, Melissa and Kristin Porter, all of Hanover, Kan.; his mother, Mrs. Doris Porter of Eagle Grove, two sisters, Alice, Mrs. Joseph Pendergast of Des Moines; Carol Porter of Eagle Grove; a brother, Gary Porter of Marshalltown; and his grandmother, Mrs. Urcil Waggoner of Sutherland, and many other relatives and friends He was preceded in death by his father, grandfathers, and a grandmother.

Funeral services for Jack E. Porter, age 35 of Hanover, Kan. and formerly of Eagle Grove, were held on Thursday, Nov 15, 1984 at 2 p.m at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove. Rev. Scott C. Hall, church pastor, officiated and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. A Memorial Service for Mr. Porter was held on Monday, Nov. 12 at the Zion United Methodist Church in Hanover, Kan., with Rev. Gerald Martin, District Superintendent of the United Methodist Church officiating. Pastors of the other local churches in Hanover also participated in the memorial services. Visitation was held on Wednesday at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove.
