December 19, 1911 --- October 27, 2001

Kenneth Sandven, the son of Ole and Elsie (Aga) Sandven, was born December 19, 1911 on their farm near Eagle Grove. He graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1929 and Eagle Grove Community College in 1936. Kenny was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a long-time member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove.

On June 15, 1951, Kenny was united in marriage to Gwen Dueland at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. They made their home on the farm near Eagle Grove until 1991, when them moved to town.

Kenny loved planting trees and maintaining a beautiful lawn on his farm near Eagle Grove. He enjoyed working with wood and for several years was a construction worker. Kenny was interested in children and loved his grandchildren. He was a Sunday School Superintendent for several years, taught Sunday School, and worked with the Boy Scouts and 4-H clubs. Kenny loved to sing and for many years sang in the church choir, he also sang solos at weddings and funerals, sang with the community chorus, participated in the Paddle Wheel Players community productions and was a member of the Lions Club in Eagle Grove.

Mr. Sandven passed away Saturday, October 27, 2001, at the Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove at the age of 89. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Lin in 1985, and seven older brothers and sisters, Omar Sandven, Sara Olson, Ann Houck, Olga Oldson, Harold Sandven, Leonard Sandven and Leonore Weiss. Survivors include his wife, Gwen Sandven of Eagle Grove, IA; two daughters and their husbands, Michele and John Webbink of Pocahontas, IA and Kim and Kevin Engels of Cedar Falls, IA; and five grandchildren, Dacia Knipp, Matt Knipp, Aaron Webbink, Kenton Engels and Karen Engels.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, October 30, 2001, at 10:30 a m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with the Revs. Paul and Susan Stone officiating. Visitation was on Monday, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Eagle Grove.
