Raymond Sampson died on Friday, April 5, 2001, at the Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge, Iowa, at the age of 83. Survivors include several nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marjorie, in 2001; and two brothers, Melbourne Sampson and Sanford Sampson.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 8, at 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove, Iowa, with the Reverend William E. Ballard officiating. Burial was held at the Rose Hill Cemetery at Eagle Grove.

Raymond Sampson, the son of Ole and Susie (Iverson) Sampson, was born May 10, 1918, at Eagle Grove. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth. After high school, he worked for the Civilian Conservation Camp for two years. He then enlisted in the United States Coast Guard serving from 1942 - 1946, as a Boatswain's Mate 2nd Class. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Rasmussen on June 1, 1944, at her parent's farm near Clarion, Iowa. He worked for Wilson & Co., worked construction, and worked for Anderson Creamery, Co-op Propane, and I.P.S. Electrical Plant, all in Eagle Grove. He attended Barber College in Sioux City, and then worked in Fort Dodge for one year, Hampton, Iowa, for five years, and then moved to Eagle Grove in 1963 where he barbered until his retirement in 1984. After his retirement, they traveled until his wife became ill. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the American Legion, and the Eagle Grove Volunteer Fire Department for 33 years. He was also a member of the Wright County Fire Fighters Association. Foust Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements.
