June 14, 1868 ---- December 17, 1928

Andrew R. Odland was born near Haugesund, Norway June 14, 1868. He left the land of his birth in 1886 and came to America, coming directly to Wright county, Iowa, where he found occupation on the farm. Mr. Odland married Lillian Enge on August 29, 1908. To this union five sons were born, who all died in infancy.

Mr. and Mrs. Odland settled first on a farm in Norway township where they lived for four years. Then they removed to their present farm which is two miles north of Holmes, where they lived for 13 years, moving into Eagle Grove from there in the fall of 1925.

Andrew's health had begun to fail somewhat about 12 years ago, and he gradually weakened, though he always was about his duties. But about three years ago he doctored in Rochester, Minn. The doctors found his ailment to be pernicious anemia and declared his condition hopeless. However, he lingered with us and was up and around, until about four months ago, when he became bedfast, and since then he gradually declined, although his mind was clear and active and he was conscious to the last. The end came quietly on Monday morning, Dec. 17, 1928, at 2 o'clock a.m.

Mr. Odland is survived by his wife, Lillian Odland, by two brothers, Nels, living near Holmes, Ia., Tom of Hackensack, Minn., and three sisters. Mrs. Martha Anderson, Sandston, Minn., and Anna and Bolette of Haugesund, Norway, besides four nephews and nine nieces and many other relatives and a host of friends. These all mourn the loss, in particular of a very loving and devoted husband, and a kind brother and relative, and faithful and appreciative friend.

Five infant sons and his parents, Rasmus and Serina Odland, preceded him in death, besides some brothers and sisters who died at an early age.

Our departed friend was of a quiet and unassuming disposition and appreciated his many friends who thought much of him and his humble and friendly ways.

Andrew had enjoyed a good Christian bringing up, his father in particular had lived a saintly life, sang and prayed much, and these early impressions never left him. He usually attended services and was interested in God's Word, and has been praying for the last two years, in particular. About three months ago, he began more to see his lost condition and to trust in Jesus as his only savior. This he confessed. We hope and believe that he went home to his Savior after life's struggle was ended.

The funeral was held from the West Side Lutheran church. Rev. H. C. Holm, who was an old neighbor of the departed, and P. L. Jostveit the local pastor, spoke at the funeral.

May God bless, comfort and strengthen Mrs. Lillian Odland in her heavy bereavement according to the helpful promises found in Psalm 23.
