A funeral service for Steve Packard will be held on Friday, June 10, 2016 at 10:30 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Renwick. A visitation will be held Thursday, June 9, 2016 from 5-7 pm at Oakcrest Funeral Services in Renwick.

Stephen Kent Packard was born April 11, 1944 to Carroll (Whitey) and Vera (McCurry) Packard in Renwick, Iowa. He attended schooling in Renwick and graduated from Boone Valley High School in 1962. On September 19, 1962 Steve enlisted in the United States Air Force. He completed his first phase of his military training at Lackland AFB, TX, and was selected for the specialized course on the basis of his interest and aptitudes. He was reassigned to Chanute AFB, IL for technical training as a United States Air Force missile propellant systems specialist. Steve was also stationed in Turkey. On September 12, 1966, Steve was honorably discharged from the Air Force.

Shortly after being discharged he was united in marriage to Joanna (Corky) Norcross on May 6, 1967 in LuVerne, Iowa. The couple lived out of the state for one year and then moved back to the Goldfield-Renwick area. They enjoyed going on motorcycle rides out to the black hills together. Steve also enjoyed gardening with Corky. Later in life he started collecting guns.

Steve dedicated his life to farming until retirement. In earlier years he enjoyed raising cattle. Steve also drove truck for several years. He was a lifetime member of the Izaac Walton League, the Livermore Otto Field American Legion Post #415 and a member of Lake Lutheran Church in Renwick.

Steven Kent Packard, 72, of Renwick died Monday, June 6, 2016 at his home. He is survived by a sister-in-law, Sally Packard; niece, Missy Walrod and her children Travis and Taylor; nephews, Kurt (Darla) Packard and their children Zachary and Aries, and Michael Packard. He is also survived by a close friend Tami (Richard) Fish and their children Amanda and Devin. Preceding him in death are his wife, his daughter Tonya Rae, parents and a brother Larry.
