Robert J. 'Bob' Ryan, age 87, of Rapid City and formerly of Eagle Grove, Iowa, passed away at Rapid City Regional Hospital on Saturday, June 11, 2016.

Robert James Ryan, the son of Eric and Alma (Swanson) Ryan, was born October 11, 1928, in Eagle Grove, Iowa. He was raised and educated there, graduating from Eagle Grove High School in 1947. Robert graduated from barber college in Des Moines and worked in Des Moines for a year before returning to Eagle Grove to join his father at Ryan's Barber Shop. He retired in 1996, after 47 years.

On June 3, 1951, Robert was united in marriage to Jacqueline Watne, at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. Robert was a member of South Enes Lutheran Church in Vincent, Iowa. Robert and Jacqueline moved to Rapid City in November of 2013.

Robert is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Ryan of Rapid City; daughter, Christine McDowell and husband, John of Rapid City; son, Scott Ryan and wife, Cheryl, of Burnsville, MN; five grandchildren, Ryan McDowell and wife Amanda, Danica Graham and husband Austin, Molly McDowell-Dunston and husband Mic, Alex Ryan and Luke Ryan; five great-grandchildren: Grace Graham, Gwen and Jack Andela, and Emily and Colton McDowell; and a sister, Jeannette Underberg and husband Kenneth of Livermore, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Thomas Ryan.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2016, at South Canyon Lutheran Church in Rapid City with the Rev. Bruce Thalacker officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove, Iowa.
