Old Settler Called
L. L. Broeffle, one of the oldest and respected citizens of Galt, passed away at the home of his son, William Broeffle, after an illness of some months at the advanced age of 81 years, 7 months and 4 days. The funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon, October 9, at the Congregational church of Galt, in charge of Leech lodge, I.O.O.F. Rev. R. A. Brough of Dows preached the sermon. The impressive ceremony used by the Odd Fellows for the burial of the dead was conducted in a fitting manner. Interment was made in the Clarion cemetery.Lester Lindsay Broeffle was born in St Lawrence county, New York, March 2, 1848. In 1867 he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Newman. To this union were born eleven children, seven of whom have preceded him in death. His wife, with whom he had walked the way of life for 62 years, passed away January 25, 1929. Mr. Broeffle has been a resident of Wright county for fifty-one years, coming here with his family from Mendota, Ill. They lived on a farm for a number of years and then moved to Galt, where they have resided for the past forty years. He was a charter member of the Congregational church of Galt, a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge for the past thirty-four years. He was also a member of Lena Rebekah lodge. In all of these he was a faithful member until called to his reward.
He is survived by four children: Tom of Ventura, Charlie of Alden, William of Dows and Mrs. Effie Engles of St. Paul, Minn., also by a sister, Mrs. Dawson Sheffield of Clarion, and many other relatives and friends.
