Ronald (Ron) Prescott passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2016. In October of 2012, during a routine aortic heart valve replacement, a MAC Chimera Bacteria was introduced into Ron’s bloodstream via a heart bypass machine. In spite of heroic efforts of doctors across the country, the bacteria won and Ron passed away at the Israel Hospice House in Ames, Iowa on May 14, 2016.
He was born in Hampton, Iowa on August 30, 1956 to Alfred and Marilyn (Neely) Prescott and raised on a farm in Popejoy, Iowa. He graduated from Alden Community High School in 1974. He enjoyed the next six years of his life in the U.S. Navy as an instructor at the Nuclear Training Facility in Idaho Falls where he met and married Debra Bouchard in 1977. Ron served on the USS Parche CGN683 (Nuclear Submarine), the most decorated military vessel in military history.
After his naval career, Ron returned to Iowa to farm and raise his family. He graduated salutatorian from Ellsworth Community College. Farming led to a banking career as president of the Farmers State Bank in Dows, IA. He graduated from Boulder Colorado’s Graduate School of Banking. Serendipity led Ron into the next phase of his life, and for 17 years Ron had the privilege of coordinating the Center for International Agricultural Banking with Dr. Neil Harl at ISU. He traveled extensively around the world making incredible friendships and leaving the people better equipped for the challenge to change and grow their new emerging economies. His last foreign address was a two-year project in Ghana, Africa for USAID.
Ron leaves his wife of 38 years, Debra, and four children: son Renald Bouchard III and his wife Darcie and their three sons Ronald IV, Etienn and Blaise of Zearing, IA; son Robert Bouchard, his wife Rebecca, and their three sons Zayne, Noah, Kaden of Bay City, MI; son Paul Prescott and his wife Hannah, and their three children Lucy, Arlo and Crosby of Waterloo, IA; and daughter Catharina (Prescott) Tibbles, husband Jeffry, and their daughters Elizabeth and Olivia of Ankeny, IA. Father Alfred Prescott of Ackley, IA; in-laws Robert and Catharina Dodson of Story City; sister Carol Hilz and husband Mark of Argyle, TX; and three nieces and one nephew. Ron was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn (Neely) Prescott, and two granddaughters Alayna and Michaela Tibbles.
Visitation will be at the Alden Methodist Church on Friday, May 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Alden Methodist Church on Saturday, May 21, at 10 a.m. A luncheon will be followed by internment at the Alden Cemetery.
