James Robert Snyder, 70, of Adair, Iowa, died Saturday, May 7, 2016, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Jim was born April 7, 1946, in Hampton, Iowa, to Robert H. and Opal A (Anderson) Snyder. He grew up in Dows, Iowa, and graduated from Dows Community School in 1964. He attended Hamilton’s Business College and graduated with a degree in business. Jim joined the US Air Force in 1967 and served in VietNam, separating from the service in 1971.
Jim was married to Peggy Simonson August 23, 1969, in Popular, MT. He was employed at Snyder Implement then owned and operated OK Hardware in Dows, IA. He also worked as a rural mail carrier in Dows and Casey, IA, retiring in 2010. Jim was married to Constance Marie Dill on May 5, 2006.
Jim was a city councilman in Adair having been elected in 2012 and still serving. He attended both Casey United Methodist Church in Casey, IA and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Adair, IA.
Jim coached multiple sports at the Adair-Casey Jr-Sr High School as well as being a volunteer at the school and Glenn Anderson’s right hand man. He and Connie were active at the school taking care of the time clocks and books for basketball games, running the chains at the football games and being spotters in the press box for football. While coaching, it was not uncommon to hear Jim say, “Unhook the Plow.” He also enjoyed golfing, mowing and attending other school events.
He was preceded in death by his parents. James is survived by his wife, Constance of Adair, IA; a son, Paul Snyder of Thornton, CO; a daughter, Alison McFarland of Adair, IA; a step-daughter, Suzanne (Tim) Caltrider of Adair, IA; a step-son, Ryan (Jill) Klemish of Exira, IA; grandchildren, London Vais, Wyatt Vais, Brooke Caltrider, Paige Caltrider, Cara Caltrider, Leaya Klemish and Mya Klemish; a brother, John (LeAnn) Snyder of Dows, IA; a niece, Kaylee (Sean) Bedford of Estes Park, CO; and a nephew, Tony (Elicia) Snyder of Canton, IL.
Visitation with family will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 20, 2016, at the Adair-Casey High School in Adair, IA. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at the Adair-Casey High School in Adair, IA. Burial will be in Sunnyhill Cemetery in Adair, IA., with military honors by the Adair VFW Post #8877 and Offutt Air Force Base Honor Guard from Omaha, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers, memorials to family’s wishes is preferred.

Two people are dead after a car crash on White Pole Road in Cass County.According to a crash report from the Iowa State Patrol, James Snyder, 70, and Tara Norton, 27, died about 8:10 a.m. Saturday. Norton, of West Des Moines, was driving westbound on White Pole Road when her car veered onto the gravel shoulder. Norton then over-corrected the steering wheel, causing the car to slide into the eastbound lane, the report noted.
Constance Snyder, 63, of Adair, Iowa, was driving eastbound when Norton's car came into her lane and collided with the vehicle she was in with James Snyder. Constance Snyder was injured and taken by Midwest MedAir to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, according to the report. The report said all three were wearing their seat belts.

Anita, Iowa -- Two people were killed and another seriously injured when a car collided with a van near Anita. The Iowa State Patrol says it happened at around 8:10 a.m. on White Pole Road west of 760th Street. A westbound 2005 Buick LeSabre, driven by 27-year old Tara Norton, of West Des Moines, left the roadway onto the gravel shoulder. Norton overcorrected causing the car to lose control sliding into the eastbound lane in the path of a 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan, driven by 63-year old Constance Snyder, of Adair. Both vehicles came to rest in the south ditch.James Snyder, 70, of Adair, a passenger in the Dodge Caravan was taken by Anita Rescue to the Cass County Memorial Hospital where he died. Tara Norton died at the scene. Constance Snyder was taken by Midwest Medair to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Adair County Sheriff’s Office, Anita, Wiota and Adair County Fire Departments, Medivac Ambulance and Midwest Medair.
