SHELDON, IA —Marie P. Veen, 91, Clarion, formerly of Sheldon, died Friday, May 6, 2016, at Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation Center. Services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 12, at Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon. Burial will be at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon. Visitation with family present will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

MARIE P. VEEN
Marie Pieterje (Patricia) Veen, daughter of Bastain and Martha Dekker was born May 10, 1924 at Boyden, Iowa. She attended school at Boyden and Sheldon, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Herman Vink on December 12, 1946 at Sheldon, Iowa. They farmed for 12 years and were blessed by two children, Herman and Debra. They moved from Archer, Iowa to Sheldon, Iowa in 1959, where Herman worked at Felco Feed, Vink Brothers Furniture and O’Brien County Assessor while Marie was a dedicated home maker and enjoyed music, playing piano, embroidering, quilting, baking and gardening. They were members of First Reformed Church of Sheldon, Iowa.

After Herman passed away on March 12, 1987, Marie was united in marriage to Gerrit John Veen on January 2, 1989. They lived in Sheldon, Iowa until October 2001 when they moved to Sanborn, Iowa. They enjoyed traveling and retirement. After John passed away on August 3, 2002, she still traveled. In 2010, she moved to Belmond, Iowa. She passed away on Friday, May 6, 2016 at Clarion Wellness and Rehab Center-Angel wing in Clarion, Iowa at the age of 91 years, 11 months and 26 days. She passed away peacefully and was ready to meet her Lord and Savior.

Marie is survived by two children, Herman and Kristine Vink of Belmond, IA; Debra Vink; 8 grandchildren, Rachel and Ryan Vogel of Cleves, OH; Jonathan Vink of Ames, IA; Michelle and Tim Worley of Des Moines, IA; Ashley Vink of Columbia, SC; Rebekah Vink of Belmond, IA; Justin Dinger of Holmen, WI; Brandon and Sunni Hogan of Wahiawa, HI; and Krystal Hogan of Estherville, IA; 11 great grandchildren; one brother, Jake Dekker of Worthington, MN.; one sister, Nellie Dykshoorn of Spencer, IA, two sisters-in-law, Joan Dekker of Worthington, MN and Wilma Vink of Sheldon, IA and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bas and Martha Dekker; John and Edith Vink; two husbands, Herman Vink and Gerrit John Veen; one brother, Leonard Dekker; 12 brothers and sisters-in-laws, Fanny Dekker; Lowell Dykshoorn, Dick and Betty Vink; Nelson and Betty Vink; Stanley and Vivian Vink; Marvin Vink; Jean and Glen Jasper; infant Nelson Vink; niece, Cheryl Buren and nephew, Nelson Jay Vink.
